It’s Easy To Do (If You Know How To Do It)

Writing an instruction manual, doing a survey, creating a map–they’re all difficult tasks because of the translation that’s required: the person doing the work already knows what they’re trying to teach. But the person interacting with the manual doesn’t.

“How can I make team members happy?” is a vital question, one that doesn’t have a simple answer. Every team member is different, so it’s impossible to find a universal strategy. GREG'S TIPS

The Day the Prime Minister Called

“This is a story about three important values – excellence, service and integrity. It starts on a sleepy Saturday morning back in 1978 when the phone rang. My parents were still in bed. Mum picked up the receiver and recalls hearing a deep, cultured voice. “Good morning. Could I speak with Mr Victor Nathan please”. She elbowed dad in the ribs and handed him the phone. “I think it’s the Prime Minister – he wants to talk to you!

ARE YOU READY?

Strong enquiries are being seen by the switched-on groups according to the franchise community that I hear from.

Whether this is simply due to COVID or wider market realisations and acceptance that franchising is the answer to people wanting to step out and own their own business I don’t know – it doesn’t matter.

What does matter, however, is that the whole business scene has altered immensely in recent months.

The fact is.

Businesses who invest in franchising as a road to their own growth, and do it properly, embracing the new technologies, are going to leave their competitors for the dead.

PAUL BLACKBURN

For years we ran fire-walking events.

We’d light a bonfire, let it burn for an hour or two, rake the coals out and walk 10 meters from one end to the other in bare feet.

At night, the red hot coals would glow menacingly because the average temperature was approx 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Skeptics Society cried foul saying that the heat from timber doesn’t transfer easily to flesh.

Easy to prove really – it’s why we use a barbecue plate instead of raw coals – faster transfer.

But of course they missed to point entirely.

We weren’t telling people they were invincible.

We were saying that you can be afraid (everyone was shit scared) and still go ahead and do something.

We were saying that you can be afraid (everyone was shit scared) and still go ahead and do something.

Trust me. Standing at the beginning of the ‘walk’ and feeling that radiant heat and seeing these glowing coals was enough for most people to experience extreme self doubt. The danger warning bells were ringing loud and clear.

Just like they are for you – whatever you are afraid of – be that speaking in public, facing a bully or parachuting.

Sure the panic button is easily pushed at such times.

But should it be?

Should you let fear run (ruin?) your life?

Is it OK to not do something simply because your imagination has concocted some fantasy in which you get devoured?

I get it that the fear is real – but what you have imagined happening is probably never going to.

What fear do you need to finally put to bed?
Hit reply and let me know.

Value is something people feel, not something we tell them they get.
