You’re thinking of franchising
You’re thinking of franchising but don’t know what’s involved, how much it will cost or even if your business is suitable for this business format. And many of you have no idea how to find the answers to your questions.
We would love to help.
The team at Franchise Simply has assisted dozens and dozens of businesses become franchised, whether from a simple concept or from an existing business. And in the process, many of our clients have found that this form of business growth has many benefits. You can streamline your business, set up systems so you can establish a team to help you, all giving you the revenue, time and energy to live the life you want.
Can I franchise?
Over the years, we have been involved with franchising dozens of businesses. We have also mentored dozens of other business owners who, for one reason or another, have decided to take advantage of the benefits of structuring their business like a franchise but who have not finalised the process to create franchised outlets.
Almost all of businesses we have come across were, in themselves, franchisable although there were a couple of exceptions. A business which only needs two or three outlets in a country would probably not suit this model for instance. In some cases a business which only needs two or three outlets would need to clearly show that it will be profitable in such a small scale.
So yes, you almost certainly can franchise your business. The decision to go with this exciting growth model is yours to make.
Why should I franchise?
There are some great advantages to creating a franchised business if you do it right. Here is a list of some of the most common reasons we have come across over the years.
To expand my business
Most business people who come to us want to grow their business and they know franchising is a way to make this happen.
Because I am proud of what I can achieve
First and foremost, most business owners wanting to take their businesses to the next level are proud of what they’ve achieved already. They love their business and what they do and are really looking to build on this foundation and give it the success it deserves.
Because I am fed up with staff issues
So many of you ask if a franchised business offers a better alternative to managing the staff issues you have and the existing staff you can’t always rely on. You are asking if franchise owners who have ‘some skin in the game’ will be more committed and run the extra yard – and hopefully the extra mile! And, if you do it right, the answer is a resounding yes!
For my family
Although focusing on business to the exclusion of all else is a sign of passion and drive, most who come to us also recognize they are allowing this focus to interfere with other more important areas of life. The kids are growing up and, as parents, they are missing all the significant stages, the fun, the relationships and building on these important parts of family. Spending more time with their significant other is becoming more important and so is having fun together outside of business.
Most recognise that being able to leverage themselves out of the business could possibly give them this precious other side of their lives back.
To manage my business better
And finally, many of you see you are not running the business to the best of its ability. Drowned in the day to day management and dealing with customers, it is difficult to see a way out to work on the big picture rather than on the daily issues which are overwhelming and take away the fun of business.
It’s the adage of being lost in the business instead of working on the business. And, yes, we know all too well how hard it is to move from one to the other when time and resources to make the change are just not available.
Even if you don’t want to franchise, a franchised system can help you put in the systems, structures and personnel into your existing business to take you out of the day-to-day.
Businesses structured in this way often attract much greater returns if you decide to sell. And they make company stores so much easier to manage. So, if you decide to expand within a corporate structure, looking and operating like a franchise, you will be that much more successful.
Just check out what Shannon has to say about his business. He restructured his business like a franchise and then sold it for a considerable profit. It’s a great exit strategy.
